Movie Update

We just wanted to update you on how development on the movie is coming along...

The Screenplay:

More often than not, great books that are optioned for movies don’t have the benefit of having their first draft screenplay written by the author.  However, it was imperative to us and to Neal that he would in fact write the screenplay, even though he has been fervently working on the sequel “Unholy”.  The world in which Unwind exists, as we all know, is scarily close, and creating that world with Neal in the context of a movie has been thought provoking.

Locations:

We have already begin some preliminary scouting for key locations and will continue to do so until official pre-production commences.  At that point, all our research and your fan suggestions will be considered.

Casting:

The million dollar question that gets fielded to us on a daily basis, and one that changes constantly for us as time passes.  The bottom line is that so many factors have to be in place before we can begin the process and these factors are continually being defined.  We WILL be casting known actors in some roles.  We WILL be casting unknown actors in some roles.  We HAVEN’T made any offers to anyone yet and HAVEN’T decided on anyone yet.  So, to all you fans out there who have been so kind as to send in suggestions and recommendations we want to thank you for helping us to build a database from which we will undoubtedly choose many of the cast.

Production:

So here is the big recipe that determines everything!  Production begins once financing is locked in.  Financing gets locked in once the key cast are locked in.  But the key cast cannot get locked in until financing is locked in and that is based upon the screenplay getting locked in. But the screenplay may not get locked in unless key cast lock in.  Then more finance needs to be locked in, then a bit more casting, then the money men need to be assured with a type of insurance policy, then some assets of distribution are sold to get more financing and then maybe then, production locks in.  Then, post production locks in, some more distribution assets are sold and then a release date will be in sight! Are you still with me?!  Let’s look at it this in detail in formula terms, and bear in mind this is just one way to make a movie (the way in which we are moving forward currently with Unwind):

book > option > screenplay > key cast > financing > casting > more financing > selling components of  distribution > completion bonding > pre-production > more casting > production > post production > selling more distribution components > possible release date.

Notwithstanding all the above, the three key ingredients to the success of the whole process is patience, determination and support.  Thank you all for your support so far, it is a critical aspect of getting Unwind made.
